However, because this is such an important role within the organisation, when it is filled by someone not competent or trained to hold the position it can spell absolute disaster.
As it is usually (depending on the size of the organisation) the Office Manager's job to provide support to office staff, facilitate functions of other departments, control the hiring of temps to fill vacant positions (created by maternity leave etc.), maintain office supplies, and organise office layout etc., you can see how someone who isn't competent in this role could hamper the overall effectiveness of an organisation.
The problems created by an incompetent Office Manager (or Office Administrator when it is at a more junior level) affect each and every department that he/she interacts with, generating a variety of issues, discontent and demotivation among other staff.
Conversely, a well-trained, confident Office Manager is capable of ensuring that these problems never come to the fore, ensuring that each department is fully equipped to perform its job correctly and efficiently.
How does your Office Manager/Administrator perform? Is there room for improvement? Would improvement make your organisation run more smoothly?
