I love new years. During these first couple of months you have the chance to get rid of all that "stuff" that accumulates on your computer, filling folders and slowing everything (including you) down, making for a much neater and more organised workflow.
I take great pleasure in creating folders called "2013" (or "2012") and dumping all the previous year's documents, links, downloaded videos, PDFs, and images right in. I'm merciless. I know if I need one of the files I've tossed aside it will still be there, but the sight of the now empty folder makes it completely worth it.
Now I can create all the new folders I'm going to need, put them in their relevant places and bam! Suddenly we have order. No more clogged up folders to frustrate me. No more sifting through endless files to find what I'm sure I've just saved…
And it's as simple as that. Just by clearing out my old files I feel invigorated and ready to start working in earnest.
Maybe I'll clean out my desk next….
