At work each of us has own style of getting things done. Some of us are more task-orientated, focusing wholeheartedly on ensuring that the deadline we’ve been given is met, and to hell with anyone or anything that gets in the way....
Then there are those of us who are more people-orientated. These people, you guessed it, have more of a focus on the people they work with and the relationships they form. To these people, relationships take precedence over the completion of the task.
Simply understanding whether the person you’re talking to is people- or task-orientated can go a long way in helping you understand the best way to communicate with them.
Within these two groups, however, we also have both introverts and extroverts. Knowing if you’re dealing with an IPO (Introvert People Orientated), EPO (Extrovert People Orientated), ITO (Introvert Task Orientated), or ETO (Extrovert Task Orientated) can further help you adapt your communication style and directive to ensure that you have the right people doing the right jobs, and that you get the message across in the best way.
The preceding information is explored in depth in the Staff Training module called “Understanding Peopleâ€, which features in many of our workshops, including Assertiveness, Frontline Reception, Communication Excellence, Developing Your Management Potential, and many, many more - view a full list of Staff Training workshops here.
