What is Sexual Harassment?
What constitutes sexual harassment? How far is too far? What's wrong with just looking?

As we discussed in a previous post the consequences of sexual harassment can be far-reaching for both the victim and perpetrator, but did you know it's not just inappropriate comments and touching that is considered sexual harassment?

Sexual Harassment can take the form of many things, from staring or looking co-workers up and down, to the displaying of sexually inappropriate posters or pictures at work.

What needs to be borne in mind is that it is how the victim is affected by the harassment that matters most, not how the action was intended by the perpetrator. Therefore it matters not whether you were joking, or meant no harm - if your actions are perceived as harassment, that is how they will be treated.

Of course this works both ways - you are also entitled to a workplace where you feel completely free from harassment, and should you become a victim of harassment you must be provided with a framework to deal with it.
