Receptionist Tips
Receptionist Tips
The person sitting at the front desk is often the one responsible for providing first impressions - but how can we do this better?

1. Know you company history as well as the product/service

In order for the receptionist to answer any questions from a client, he/she must know about the company and the product or service that the company sells. Take the time to do your research; it'll pay off in the end.

2. Learn to listen

Good listening skills are a must if you're a receptionist who aims to make your customers feel heard and respected. Remember: Good communication and presentation is key in a frontline job.

3. Take note of everything

Keep a book in which you can write any messages to your colleagues. Sometimes we forget who called, but if you write everything down it will be a hang of a lot easier to ensure you give the right message to the right person.

4. Remember your attitude!

Always smile when greeting your customers and be polite to them. If you are busy on the phone, indicate that you will be with him/her shortly. That makes them feel acknowledged. Remember to treat all people equally, no matter the mood you're in!

5. Dress code

Remember, you are the face of the company. The way you dress must say it all. If you wear casual, it must be a neat business casual.

6. Be willing to learn more

In order to learn new skills, be willing to take on new tasks. In this way you not only show initiative, but learn more about the inner workings of your company.
