There are lots of reasons why we lack focus and motivation during this time of the year - for some it's a case of it naturally being their industry's quiet-time, while for others it's that they are just more preoccupied with their personal lives.
People feel the stress of having to schedule, arrange and attend a host of events, organise their children's movements and still do all the shopping, cooking and cleaning, which tends to have a noticeable effect on performance at work.
During this period lots of employees also take off time to spend with their families, leaving the offices eerily quiet and devoid of motivation.
While all of this may sound rather depressing for those of you left at work, as with everything in life there are always two ways to look at it.
The way we suggest you look at it is like this:
With the offices quiet, whether the reason be off-peak season or co-workers on holiday, you now have fewer demands from colleagues and customers and are able to attend to all the things that require your undivided attention.
Step up to the plate and get things done! Before you know it things will be back to normal and the work will be piling up, so use this time to complete all the tasks you've been dragging your feet about and prepare yourself for the busy times ahead!
Another huge benefit of rising above the lack of motivation hanging over the office is that this kind of attitude tends to get noticed by your supervisors and managers. When you're able to show that you can overcome whatever obstacles are in your way and get on with the task at hand despite how the rest of the office feels, management take note of the initiative and leadership skills and use this in the future.
How do you stay motivated during the holidays?
