Conflict Handling Styles
There's the Gumboot Style of dance, the Gothic Style of dress and the Comb-Over Style of hair-dos, but what about the style you prefer to use in times of differences and conflict?

1. Collaboration

High assertiveness, High cooperation

- Active listening
- Non-threatening confrontation
- Identifying concerns
- Analysing input

2. Compromising

Medium assertiveness, Medium cooperation

- Negotiating
- Finding a middle ground (50/50)
- Assessing value
- Making concessions

3. Accommodating

Low assertiveness, High cooperation

- Forgetting your desires
- Selflessness
- Ability to yield
- Simply obeying orders

4. Competing or Forcing

Low assertiveness, Low cooperation

- Arguing or debating
- Asserting your opinions and feelings
- Standing your ground
- Stating your position clearly

5. Avoiding

Low assertiveness, Low cooperation

- Ability to withdraw
- Ability to sidestep issues
- Ability to leave things unresolved
- Sense of timing
