Now I'm no computer expert myself but I have learnt a thing or two over the years, such as quickly creating new documents, opening new browser windows and not letting my shift key get stuck (IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN…) - here are a few tricks that could help you make peace with the dreaded PC too.
In all instances the "+" symbol is not typed but rather shows that one or more buttons should be pressed at the same time.
In Word Documents:
Ctrl + N = New document
Ctrl + S = Save (Use this often to avoid losing work!)
Ctrl + P = Print (If your PC is linked to a printer)
Ctrl + C = Copy (Will copy whatever is currently selected)
Ctrl + V = Paste (Will paste whatever you have copied)
Ctrl + A = Select all
Ctrl + O = Open a document saved on the computer
Holding down Shift while using the arrow keys will begin selecting text (this works in both Word and on the Internet). To select whole words at a time use the Shift key + Control key + Arrow keys. To select whole lines of text hold down the Shift key (once your cursor is at the point where you want to start your selection) and press the End key (or Home key to select from end to beginning).
In Your Browser:
Ctrl + T = New tab
Ctrl + Shift + T = Open last closed tab
Ctrl + Tab = Cycles through your open tabs
In General:
Alt + Tab = Cycles through your active windows (E.g. Firefox, Word and iTunes)
Knowing these shortcuts (and remembering to use them, especially in the case of Ctrl+S) can save you huge amounts of time in the long run and make the "stupid computer thingy" a whole lot more friendly to use.
