Death by Office Chair
Death by Office Chair
Aging faster than you'd like to? It could be your desk job that's to blame…

While you might have thought that your cosy desk job was saving you the aches and pains a manual labourer might face, the truth is you're probably doing yourself more harm than good.

That's because for many of us once we take a seat at our desks and start trudging through our work, that's where we stay for the rest of the day.

"But my chair is so comfortable! How could it possibly be doing me any harm?"

Ah but you see, it's not the sitting that's bad for you, it's the not getting up until home time that wears you out.

Without taking regular breaks from sitting (yup, you read that right, breaks from sitting) what happens over time is our bodies apparently react in a similar way to how an astronaut's body reacts in zero gravity.

What this means is that we become susceptible to weight gain, experience difficulty sleeping, become dizzy after standing up, experience tiredness and fatigue, and may even suffer from muscle wasting.

The same symptoms one experiences when bedridden…

Luckily for us we have gravity to work with; all we have to do is take advantage of it a little more often.

Taking regular breaks to simply stretch your legs for a few minutes every hour can have a remarkable effect on your physical health, making you feel more energetic and refreshed almost immediately - give it a try!
