Breaking Bad Habits for the Type 7 Personality

Breaking bad habits – thoughts from an Ennea Type Seven's perspective...

As a type 7 personality on the Enneagram I simply love life. Life is just one big experience for me.

My attitude is very much to see the glass AT LEAST half-full and I admit to having little experience of pain and uncomfortable situations. Those, I have the ability to replace with something enjoyable, or to intellectualise the experience.

But on this exciting journey I have picked up some bad habits…

I have done the Polarity Map (a popular decision-making tool in Staff Training workshops) to look at the positives and negatives of, for example, stopping smoking, and the positives and negatives of not stopping smoking, and still I have not been able to take a positive decision.

Type sevens seldom stop to take a hard look at reality.

So I took the advice of my training to go to my quiet place, or cave, and process the hard facts. I did some research on the internet and apparently a bad habit is just a substitute for dealing with stress or fear. And then it hit me: I fear old-age in the sense that I do not want to only be allowed to do things that are good for my health, as older people are often advised to do. (A fear of being limited - which is a core fear of the Type 7 Personalities.)

Now I know what to do next. I am going to replace this nasty habit with something that I enjoy and that can add value to my life.

Success!
