Being Heard
Whilst chatting to an acquaintance recently, a much-repeated topic surfaced again.

Exactly how many people actually hear what we are saying? The answer is sadly, very few.

"Being an introvert by nature, when I realise that I am not being heard, I withdraw from the conversation or I comply with the other individual's agenda, leaving mine on the back burner," said my acquaintance. "The spin off in my work is that it sometimes takes me longer than what it should to accomplish a task. I sometimes also end up working harder at the task, as I take on their part of the job too."

This person is a team leader at a travel agency.

I asked her how she related to her more difficult clients. "Oh well, the client is always right so I mostly do as they ask."
"Even if the client is in fact wrong and is being impossible?" I asked.
"Mm, mostly!" came the reply.

As you can see this means that this individual loses time, efficiency and direct income as a result of not being able to make herself heard.

I on the other hand have figured out that whilst I am mostly heard at the office, I am not always heard in my home environment. The result is that I can feel quite unappreciated at home.

So are you being heard? And how does your life reflect this?
